Moon Rock & Lighter FluidA University of Southern California Thesis Film |

DonationsDear Family & Friends,I am in my final year and currently producing my thesis project MOON ROCK & LIGHTER FLUID. The cost of a USC graduate thesis film varies from project to project. Some thesis films have cost the filmmaker over $100,000, while some have ranged from $18,000 to $40,000. The projected budget for MOON ROCK AND LIGHTER FLUID is $28,000, not including in-kind resources available to me as a USC film student such as editing facilities, sound equipment and HD Camera. We must raise funds ourselves. Some of this money comes from saving, loans and scholarships, but most of it comes through the generous support of family and friends. There are several ways to donate. Donations of any size are both greatly needed and appreciated from now until we complete the film in the Summer of 2007. It may even qualify as a tax-deductible charitable contribution. 1. Direct Cash Contribution A direct cash/check contribution to the director is the most helpful type of contribution for a thesis film. The advantage of this type of contribution is that the funds are accessible to the project immediately. The disadvantage of such contributions is that the contributor is not able to claim a tax-deduction. 2. Tax-Deductible Check to USC School of Cinematic Arts A check or money-order (of $250 or higher) made out to the school will not be cashed until two weeks before the production begins shooting. The funds then become available through the school for student film productions. The advantage of such a contribution is that it is tax-deductible (501c3). The disadvantage is that the business office works entirely in reimbursements and purchase orders, which limits both what aspects of the film the funds can pay for, and also usually requires that the student run their credit card and wait, often for a while, for reimbursements. 3. In-Kind Donation In-kind donations are always tax-deductible (provided you fill out the included paperwork). These come in the form of food, services, gift-cards, equipment loans, location access with fee waivers, and other non-monetary donations. The advantages to such a contribution are immeasurable, and there are no disadvantages. All donors will be listed in the special thanks credit in the film and receive a copy of the completed DVD. For any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your generous support. Sincerely, Charles R. Uy Here is a listing of suggested donations:
